  1. About a hundred years ago they only light used in our district was got from candles. They were made in this way. First a small boat shaped pan was procured. Resin was put into it and boiled. Pieces of cotton were made into wicks and soaked in the liquid resin. They were put out in the air to harden. When partly hardened they were rolled to make them a better shape. When finished they burned quite well.
