About a fort
My Grandfather told me this story. Not far from Dicksgrove in the townland of Threegneeves there was a large fort on a farm owned by a Protestant farmer name Merdith.
This man thought the land under the fort was unprofitable as it was always in grass, so he got it ploughed up. The following morning, on going into the fields he saw the marks of hundreds of little feet, on the freshly turned soil. The marks all went in the same direction, from the road, by the place where the rath had been and passed the dwelling house.
The man's wife had a fine healthy baby but on the morning of the ploughing, the cradle contained a sickly, puny infant, which seemed to be suffering from some unknown disease, it seemed to be always in pain and always hungry and eventually pined and died away.(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
