    The first one to draw water from a well at three boundaries on May Day was said to have a superstitious advantage over the succeeding people.

    Finding iron on the way while going on a journey was considered lucky. Hence the horse-shoe.
    Marry on:-
    "Monday for Health
    Tuesday for Wealth
    Wednesday the best day of all
    Thursday for losses
    Friday for Crosses
    Saturday - no luck at all."
    Throw an old shoe after the bridal pair "for luck."
    The Bride should wear:-
    "Something old and something new
    Something borrowed & something blue."
    It is not lucky to light 3 candles (or cigarettes or pipes) with the same one match.
    Mrs Dineen of Hollymount (nach maireann) used to say if she saw 3 lights in one room "Cá bhfuil an estát?"
