- (ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)as it was spun. After supplying all needs of the family the rest of it was sold to the weaver who wove it into other material. It was during this time that candles were mostly used. One would be constantly kept busy making the tallow candle as it was called, lit. This candle was made from rushes which were gathered in the daytime and the green cover taken off leaving nothing but the white of the inside. This was dipped in lard and hung on a string by the fire to dry. At night time when the spinning was going on this candle showed them light. The person who attended the candles spent all his time keeping them lighted. He got a rush and dipped it in the grease and(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
