I have a sample of handmade bricks made by a man named Brady, in the townland of Monaghanoose, Brady's son Charles (who is still alive being over 90 years old) told me that the clay from which the bricks were made was white, streaked with yellow, it was first dug up into a heap and chopped fine with the edge of a shovel or a spade as it was not brittle like ordinary clay, all the stones had to be picked out of it and then it had to be turned and worked with short shovels till it was all a tough mass like putty.
