  1. Beside Lord Sligo's demesne in Westport there is a house now occupied by Mr. Carrol. At the back of this house there is a hole which is supposed to be bottomless. It got its name from a tragedy that occured there. A horse and cart backed into it. The man in trying to save the animal's life fell in himself.
