  1. The name of my district is Westport. It is in the townland of Westport in the parish of Aughavale and in the Barony of Murrisk. There are about 1,500 families in the townland and there about 3,500 people living there. The most common family names are O'Malleys, Gavins, Walshes, Morans, Gradys, Bourkes, Murphys, Mc Donnells, Gibbons, and Mc Greals. Slated houses are the most common type. Long ago there were a lot of beeves exported from Westport. On this account it was called Catair na Mart - "The City of the Beeves." The largest of the land is boggy. Some of it is hilly but there are a few good patches of land.
