  1. Songs about School

Long ago, the children who were going

Long ago the children who were going to school were very clever and were able to compose songs about school.
    This is one :
I got my holidays last June
And now my schooling time is nigh
On Monday next I must return
To my old teacher, Miss O'Byrne.
And all my books I must collect
The dearest one I will select
To meet my pals, both one and all
The little and the big and small.

    This is another :
My heart is heavy in my breast
    I'm loaded down with pain
At night I can't get any rest
    In fact, I'm near insane.
I'll tell you now the reason why
    Though you'll say I'm a fool
    Because on Monday morning next
    I'm going back to school.
