  1. Sweetwood is my home district. There are eighteen houses and sixty-eight inhabitants in it. The most common names are Kelly, Crowne and McGowan. There are two slated houses and two with iron on them and the remainder are thatched. Sweetwood got its name from a number of fruit trees which were grown in it. There was a lot of fruit growing on them. Wood-bine was the most common fruit.
There are five old people living in Sweetwood but none of them know Irish. They can tell stories. Houses were more numerous in Sweetwood long ago, because there were two houses then for the one house now. There are the ruins of two houses in Sweetwood. Some of the people died and more of them went away to foreign countries. Sweetwood is divided into three parts namely Upper Sweetwood, Little Sweetwood and Lower Sweetwood. There is no lake but there are two rivers in my townland.
