  1. 1. It is my mother that does the churning
    2. If strangers come in during the churning they generally help to do the churning.
    3. It is done by the hands. The dash is pulled up and down and sometimes rolled.
    4. Boiling water is poured on the milk in winter to soften the butter when it is being churned and sometimes cold is used to harden the butter.
    5. People know by the dash when the butter is made.
    6. The milk and butter disappear from the churn dash.
    7. The butter is lifted off with the hand or strainer and is put on wooden boards and the buttermilk is washed out of it with water.
    8. Then it is salted and put into a clean dish.
    9. There are stories connected with churning and butter making.
    10. The butter milk is used for pigs, calves, and for making bread.
