The present postman's Grandfather manufactured nails. He had a forge fully equipped for the purpose. He always put seven irons in the fire and when each iron rod became hot he cut it into nails quickly. The forge was attached to the dwelling. - A hackler was a man who prepared flax for spinning. When the flax was taken out of the dam he spread it on the ground to dry. After it was dried it was scutched. The scutcher used a scutching stool and a scutching handle.
