  1. I There is a ruin of an abbey and an old Castle to be seen still in the Castlefield. It was built by the O Dowd's. This Castle is very old it has been in ruin for years. This Castle was a Catholic Church first in the penal days. After some time Cromwell took this Church over and gave it to the Protestants. It became a Protestant Church afterwards. And is to be seen still in the townland of Enniscrone. After some years this Castle was attacked and broken down.
II In this Castle, many Protestants are buried. There once lived a Protestant parson named Thos. Valentine. This Protestant parson died and left thousands of pounds after him. His grave is to be seen still in this old abbey. He was buried standing up.
