  1. On a bright September morn,
When the day's were calm and clear
    The republican's left sweet Glenree
In high spirits and good cheer.
To surprise the Free State garrison.
Who was stationed in the town.
    And make them all surrender.
    Their arm's to leave down.
You may talk of Patrick Sarifield.
And the siege of Limerick town.
These deed's are in the back-ground.
When we talk of Ballina town.
    Like a thunder-bolt from heaven.
    They dashed downArdnearer
    A handful of Republican's.
    And the famous "Ballinalea"
They surprised the sentries of the bridge
And this to them did say.
"Hand's up down arms and advance"
It is the order of the day.
Like a lightning flash those heroes dashed.
