  1. There was a woman named "Mary the Black" living in the Lane BallyMcElligott. One day Sam was going to Church and he called out Mary. "Where did you kill the bird last night" said he meaning to show his English visitors, who were with him, how capable an agent he was. Sam hated to see game of any sort interfered with. He would also notice the cutting of the smallest branch in his estate. May said "I will find out Sir", and she ran into her home. Out she came with the bird. "He killed him here sir" said Mary, pointing to the tail of the bird
