  1. The man of a great man for throwing any kind of a weight was Pat Clifford from Gortglass. He could beat any man casting. It was no bother to him to carry a twenty stone sack of meal on his back. Mick O Daly from Cordal was a good runner. He ran from Cordal to Gneevguilla and got, a small start of the beagles and beat them. John McCarthy could beat any man in our district jumping a horse, without putting any hand on the horse's back. Con Foran from Tullaig was the best mower in our district. He could mow an Irish acre and a quarter in a day. James Connor from Knockeenhone is the best walker around. There was a walking match burrow a mile in length and he won it. He ran it in twenty minutes.
