    Listry, Beaufort, Co Kerry that told me about those old cures.
    Whooping cough
    An herb called mouseen used to be boiled in milk, and given to the patient to drink. This grows on the side of a ditch.
    Toothaches
    A piece of soot and a pinch of salt used to be mixed together, and rubbed to the painful teeth.
    Headaches
    The white of an egg used to be put into a strip of cloth and tied round the head.
    Boils
    Soap and sugar, or sometimes a leaf of tobacco used to be put on the boil to draw the matter of it it.
    Stomachaches
    A plate used to be heated, and a cloth put round it, and put to the stomach.
    Sore eyes
    Cold black tea used to be rubbed to them. It was my father Tim Breen of Lahard, Beaufort, that told me about those old cures.
