  1. A Hidden Treasure
    In ancient times an old Abbey stood on the southern side of the river Blackwater, where a number of monks lived, these monks cut a passage under the ground as a means of escape from the English soldiers. Local tradition tells us that they were driven into the river and that as they were drowning they cursed the river, their curse being that the river should receive three victims each year and as long as any old person in the district can remember there have been three drowned every year in the river up to last year. Some people say that there must be as many people drowned since as there were monks on that fateful day and that the monks are now satisfied.
