  1. In 1643 Lord Inchiquin sent Sir Charles Vavasor with 1,600 men and ten big guns to take the Liaclash Castle (east of Fermoy) Lord Vavasor took the castle and he put to death all the men, women & children who were in it. The following day an Irish army besieged the Castle Vavasor was beaten, he escaped from the castle but the Irish overtook him when he was crossing the Blackwater, they took from him his guns, his baggage and all he had, and then they put him to death.
