    Once there lived a man in Rathdeeff and his name was Tom Turnbull. He was Bob Turnbull's great grand uncle. He was a great Irishman and a great man for his country. He joined General Humbert in the year 1798 and he drove the English out of Ballina, Killana and Castlebar. Himself and a few men more from the County Mayo were captured outside Castlebar in a place called Ballinamuck and arrested.They were sentenced to be hanged but an order came from the King of England to train them as English soldiers. They were dressed up like English soldiers and sent over to England.
    They were transported out to India but they could come home any time they liked if they got other men to take their places. When Tom Turnbull got holidays he came to England again. He was lodging with a widow woman who had one child. She asked him if he would like to leave India and he said he would like to get
