    Five smiths are all I know anything about. James Gilmartin Bridge St., Michael Cox Main St., Frank Canning Main St., Joe Gilmartin Eslin., Edward Devine Coole-bawn. James or Joe Gilmartin's father was not a smith. Michael Cox's father was a smith. The walls are made of stone, and the roof is made of felt. The bellows is like a fiddle-case with an opening on the narrow-end. The two sides of the bellows are joined together with leather. There is a pipe going from the opening in the bellows to the fire, and when the handle is pushed down it makes a draught which kindles the fire. He has an anvil, sledges, hammers, vice, grind-stone, tongs, bit-and-brace, stool for horse's foot, rasp, and knife. He shoes horses, asses, and mules, he does not shoe cows or such like animals. He shoes wheels in the open air, and he usually does it outside the door. Forge dust mixed with lime gives a slaty appearance to any-part of a house it is put
