  1. About the year 1855 there was great exitement around Castle Blaney and the police were very busy. Templeton was the landlord and his agent was a man called Bateson. This agent resided at Coratanty on what was then known as the Model farm which is now owned by a man called James Mc Bennet, about two miles from the town. He was not very well liked by the tenants. He had often promised to lower their rents but he never carried it out. One dark winter night as he was going home from Castle Blaney he was way laid by three or four men.
    He always wore a coat of mail but these men had a huge iron bar and they battered his head with it until they killed him. Bateson pleaded for mercy and said if they would spare him he would do much for them, but they would have no mercy on him. When they had him killed they changed coats so that they would not be
