    completed when a great big sod suddenly floated from the lake and almost blocked the drain. Jennings called on each of his men to remove it. They refused and he took the shovel to do so himself. The sod was heavy and he being barefooted at the moment put his foot on it whilst he attempted to break it into parts with his shovel. Suddenly his leg began to ache. He was soon in agony. He tried Doctor after Doctor to cure him but daily his leg was growing worse. He thought of going to Mass. He next called to Father John Power and asked him to cure him. This Father John did without delay. He continued going to Mass for some time and then went back to the protestant service. Again he was soon in agony with his leg; he went to Father John Power who refused to do anything for him. Once more he tried Doctor after Doctor but his leg got worse and worse. To save his life the leg was amputated at the knee. The portion cut off was taken to Rosscarbery and buried there. Jennings lived some years afterwards and when he died he was buried in the same grave as his leg.
