- The first football match in this district was played in a field at the back of the Curate's house (on the Callan Road about 1/4 mile from the village of Mullinahone) There were twenty one men on each side and the goal consisted of two high poles with a sugan from one to the other, and two poles again on either side of the goal. If the ball went out between the goal and the poles it was a point, and if the ball went out over the sugan it was a point.
In more ancient times the ball was kicked across country.
This side of Slievenamon played against the other side, this side won because they brought home the ball.
