  1. The first football match in this district was played in a field at the back of the Curate's house (on the Callan Road about 1/4 mile from the village of Mullinahone) There were twenty one men on each side and the goal consisted of two high poles with a sugan from one to the other, and two poles again on either side of the goal. If the ball went out between the goal and the poles it was a point, and if the ball went out over the sugan it was a point.
    In more ancient times the ball was kicked across country.
    This side of Slievenamon played against the other side, this side won because they brought home the ball.
    Football togs were not worn in
