I
You feeling hearted Christians draw near both young and old,
A dreadful lamentation to you I will enfold,
Concerning poor James Farrelly those words I must pen down,
That lost his life on a railway near to Oldcastle town.II
He worked on the Cavan railway for many months its true,
Well liked by all his comrades the truth I’ll tell to you,
When one tremendous villain said “I’ll take your life this day”
” You’ll never sack another man that works on this railway.III
Then Farrelly made him answer and those words to him did say,
“I never injured any man so you must be astray”,
He never said another word but to his work began,
