- One evening a man was coming home from Bailiebourgh. He was crossing fields and he saw a little fairy man with a green coat and a red cap The man was frightened but he went on. All of a sudden the fairy sat down and began to mend a fairy's shoe. The man asked him what was he doing The fairy-man said:
"Is it any business of yours?" The man became angry and caught the fairy by the neck and said " If you don't mend those shoes that I have on my feet I will burn you."
"You will have to put soles on them."
"All right" said the fairy I will meant them with the greatest of pleasure. The man sat down and took off his shoes and the fairy started mending them. The man was picturing to himself how clever (how) he was to be getting his boots mended for nothing. The fairy was not long mending them.. When he was finished mending them, The man thanked him very much. Then the fairy-man disappeared and the man saw him no more. When the man arrived hime he started telling his wife and other people that were in the house about the good job he got done on his shoes. He took them off to show them(continues on next page)
