  2. Dips were made with cotton wicks or the pith of a rush as a wick.
    The wick was dipped in the melted fat and brought out to dry. The process was repeated till the candle was thick enough.
    To hold one of these, a piece of rod was split and candle inserted. There was also an iron candle-stick, with socket
