The publican must have given him potteen instead of whisky for Roger after coming out of the public house returned to the graveyard instead of going home. Just at the moment of his arrival some persons were burying the body of a child. The little coffin lay on the grass while the grave was being prepared.
Roger rushed forward, threw himself on the tiny coffin and cried
