- (ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)These verses were written Michael Gunning on an occasion of the agitation by the people of Clonmacnoise on division of the Charelton Lands:-
You gallant men of Clonmacnoise
And women stanch and sound
I hope you pay attention
To these lines I now pen downTis oft that sacred and holy spot
That lies beneath the ground
It's fare, in look so rare,
And the country all aroundThis place, surpasses any
That ever yet was found
Tis well known for its piety
Its faith and fervour sound.Where St. Kieran built his holy Church
In it he did dwell
And thousands came from far and near
To worship at his well.To look at it the present day
It would fill your heart with joy
To set this holy place laid waste
By tyrants cruel blow.(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
