    to gather the butter. The people knew when it is done, when it gathers in lumps. Water is poured in during the churning. This is done to heat the milk.
    When the butter is made a butter pail and two spades are procured, the butter is taken out with the two spades, and put into the pail, into which water has been put. When it is washed well, salt is put on and then washed off. Then it is made into pounds, and ready for use.
    The buttermilk is used to make cakes, and to feed calves and pigs.
