  1. In olden times the people knew a sign foretelling all kinds of weather. Before rain the cat used to scrape at the barks of trees. The South wind always brought rain. Stripes were seen from the sun before rain. The goats also ran to the shelter of the house before it. If a white horse turned his tail to the wind it was a sure sign of rain. A ring was also saw around the moon before rain. The swallows also used to skim along the ground before rain
    A sure sign of storm was to see the cat lying with her back to the fire and blue blazes in it.
    Before thunder and lightning the dog came in to the house and would not go out
    A sure sign of snow was to see the swans going in flocks towards the South
    When the people wanted to know if frost was coming they listened for the noise of the train If it had a very loud rattle frost was sure to come. Before rain the swallows used to skim along the ground. Before thunder and lightning the
