  1. A cure for a whitlow.
A cure for a whitlow is made from boiled herbs which are found growing in certain mountainous districts. These herbs are mixed with flour and some liquid together with the white of an egg and applied to the effected part until a new skin appears.
The herbs are known to Mr. Mc Manus (Barney Denis) Cúlfuar, Maher Derradda P.O., Ballinamore.
    A cure for chillblains.
Hot turf ashes applied to chillblains when they first become painful will clear away swelling and soreness.
    A cure for warts.
Put castor oil on warts and it will cure the most obstinate ones.
    Another cure for warts.
Get forge water and wash the warts in the water. In a few days the warts will be gone.
    A cure for (cramps) Erysipelas.
Erysipelas can be cured by rubbing the diseased part with unsalted butter saying in the Name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Ghost. Amen. This cure is not effective except when used by certain members of certain families. John Beirne, Kiltygerry, Ballinamore & Michael Walsh (Wide Fellow) Kiltymodden [?] have this cure.
