  1. I reside in the parish of Tarbert and in the town-land of Tarmons. It is estimated that fifty two families dwell in the district.
    In former days only one slated house was to be seen in the district owned by Mrs. Nolan at present. The houses were thatched and the floors were made of mud, and some of them not properly built.
    Tarmons is not a fertile district and is only able to rear small numbers of cattle. A great number of people that were getting the old age pension have died recently. Only twelve remain and very little Irish is spoken by them. From about the year 1750 onwards people of this district emigrated to America in numbers to escape the poverty and starvation that faced them at home.
    A holy well is situated in this district and the people visit it
