  1. Here in Tarbert the surest sign of rain is when the breeze comes from Dooncaha bog. When a dark gloomy cloud is visible over Hanlon's house which is on a height to the West, we are bound to have torrents of rain. People living by the Shannon shore are good weather prophets. If it starts to rain about high-tide time, it will continue raining for some time. On the other hand, if the day clears up about high tide time, the day will remain fine. Very high tides bring bad weather.
