  1. The local fairs are now held in the streets but they do not obstruct traffic. At one time all fair business was transacted in "the Market" which is a field a few hundred yards away from the school. But that was about a hundred years ago when Tarbert was prosperous. Tarbert fairs were practically unknown then until the time of the "Black and Tans". The fair could not be carried on in Listowel then, so it was held in Tarbert.
