  1. Tarbert the little village in which I live is situated on the banks of the Shannon. The townland is Tieraclea. The commonest family name is OConnor which is not surprisinf because it is in the barony of Iraughti Connor (Oighreacht Uí Concubhair). Most of the houses are slated with the exception of a few which are thatched ones. About five hundred people live here.
    There are many details concerning how Tarbert got its name. Here I will mention
