    Slates were used up to the time of pencils and copies.
    There was a black board at Tarmon's hedge school. Some of the children sat and the rest used to stand and used to change during the day.
    The children used to go to the school until the parents understood from the schoolmaster who educated his sons, that any of them was cute at his learning. The parents would make him a priest, a clerk or a schoolmaster. When the boy would have as much as the master he must go to a better master.
    The children showed more respect to their teachers
