  1. Mike Purcell
    There once lived a family whose names were Purcells. They had only one son whose name was Mike. They were very poor. Mike's father was dead and there lived only Mike and his mother then. They had but one cow and they were obliged to sell her because the landlord was after [telling] serving them for rent. Mike had to take the cow to the fair in Cork so he started off to the fair with his cow. On his way he had to pass a hill. He was overtaken by a small little man whom he never saw before or did not know.
    He said good morning Mr Purcell where are you going. O Muire said Mike and he knows me. He took a bottle out of his pocket you will take this and exchange for your cow Mr Purcell. All you have to do is to place it on the table on a clean cloth. Mike went home and when his mother saw him she was surprised "You surely was not at the fair since." So Mike told her all that had happened. So the poor
