One day as I chanced for to roam is mo caolech agam-sa go groidhe.

One day as I chanced for to roam,
Is mo caoleach agam-sa go groidhe,
I espied a fair maid all alone,
Is í ag deunamh isteach ar Thráighlí
Her cheeks were as red as a rose
Is a bhéilín go ró-mhilis binn,
I asked her how far would she go
Nó a dtiocfá' sí liom go Tráighlí.
    11.
She spoke with a pitiful tone
Agus d'fheagair sí mise gan mhoill,
    “My father distracted would go
Is bheadh mo mháithrín a gear-gol is a’ caoí
Besides that my fortune is low.
Is bheadh mo earaid go leár ar mo dhruím
If away with a stranger I’d go
Ag taisteal na mbóithre gan suim.
    111.
Dont take it for jest or a joke,
Mar is leat-sa do chailleas mo chiall
But prepare and we’ll "make" for the road
No beid cúntas gur cailleadh me n'dhiaidh.
I’ll dress you in silks and fine clothes
    Agus capall marcuiocta féd’ bhuidhean
So make up your mind and come home
Agus mhairfeann go brach i dTráighlí.
