    Long ago there used be great tug-a-war contests.

    There was yet another way of testing each others strength and that was by one man lifting three men. This man would lie up against a ditch and one man would sit on his shoulders with his legs around the lifter's neck. The other two would sit on each of his arms then he would carry these three around for awhile. Of course these three men wouldn't want to be extra heavy. If they were about twelve stone each it would be a fairly heavy lift for any man.
    There were two men one time and they were trying each other's strength. One of them got a bag of phosphate and he carried it one hundred yards and then the other man got the same bag and he brought it two hundred yards. Then the first man brought the bag of phosphate with a four stone weight
