- At the time of the Big Snow a girl about 13 years old who lived with her mother in a cabin in Bandon Road had to walk in her bare feet every day to the Convent where she was employed in the lace work class. She said that along her way from her house to the Convent the snow was piled high against the houses. The constant walking of the people in the middle of the street had formed a sort of path. Along this icy, cold passage she had to walk with the snow on each side higher than her head. But a certain day during this period she experienced one of the happiest hours of her life. The Sister in charge gave her 3/6 for a lace collar she had made. With this money she was able to buy a pair of boots, and these boots were I understand, the first pair she ever wore.
