To be caught trespassing on the grounds of Cromwell's gentry was a serious crime. But Randal's presence of mind saved him from trouble. He swept the hat off his head, bowed before her ladyship and answered "If you plaise Miss Ann, Tis what brought me was to axe the loan of the caffriola (cabriolet) to carry my sister Catherine to Cork."
