- Tinkers go around from place to place begging. They are very familiar to this district. When they come, they pitch their camps near a running stream or a wood, or a bog. They camp in a quiet place. There is a big party of them called Murphys and they generally come for the fairs. They remain a fortnight and during that time they sell horses and donkeys. They buy tin and they make cans and saucepans. Then they sell them and with the money they get for them they buy more tin.
