- (continued from previous page)potatoes scraped with a board and a bit of tin attached to it. This was called a scraper. The Boxty was mixed with salt and flour and water and spread out very thin and baked in a pot.
The people had scarcely any milk for their tea and on this account they kneaded the bread with water.
A cross was cut on top of the cake and a pinch was taken out of it when it was baked for fear the fairies would bring it. Long ago bread was baked in a small pot called a Scillit. Some people baked it on a piece of thick iron left beside the fire. The iron was called a griddle.(continues on next page)- Collector
