  1. My father sows an acre and a quarter of potatoes. He prepares the land with his horse and plough and he manures the land with farmyard manure and fertilizer.
    He sows a half-acre of potatoes on the lea. These are sown with the spade and they are called ridges and about three roods of drills made with a double mouldboard plough.
    In olden times wooden ploughs were used but not at the present day.
