The French shot the English and the blood that flowed from the soldier's wounds gave the hill a red appearance and the people called it Baile Ruadh.
There is also a lake in my district and the people say there is no bottom to it. In olden times people used to see water-horses and whistling eels in it. There is a story told about this lake.
Once upon a time there was a woman living beside this lake and she was alone. One night she went for a can of water to this lake(continues on next page)
