The wild birds that are common in my district are
1. On the upland:-
Sparrows, robin, swallow, lark, corncrake, thrush, black-bird, the bat, red shank, wood-quest, yellow hammer, green-linnet, gold Finch, magpie, cuckoo, riabog, starling wren, wagtail and crow.
2. On the moors, and bogs: -
Snipe, wild duck, curlew, wild goose, swan, sea-gull, plover, water-hen, pilibin.
3. These birds may be seen in our woods: -
Pheasant, grouse, partridge.
Of those the following birds migrate:
wild-geese, swallows, wild duck and the cuckoo, and corncrake. The wild-geese come to spend the Winter with us and leave again when they eat three feeds of young oats. The others spend Summer here. Before the Swallows leave they collect in groups on the roofs of houses and all leave together. Some say the cuckoo changes into a hawk.
