    of thousand of y ears ago when Ireland was covered with forests and wolves roamed about in batches. Look at all the places which contain Áth (ford) such as Béál Átha na Sluagh, Béal Átha an Fheadha, Áth Fhirdiaidh, Áth hÍ. We have others containing Rath (fort) for example Rath Maolainn, Rath Cruacham, Rath na Gaola. Others tell of some ancient Church such as Cill Coinnigh, Cill Dara, Cill an Ceallaigh and Cill Mochallóg.
    We have other place names which suggest some chieftain held sway there. Such names occur in Caisleán a' Bharraigh (Barry's Castle), Dún Gheanainn (Gannon's Castle), Dún Garbhán, (Garvan's fort) Beál ÁTHA bHÁRRAIGH, (Barry's Highway). Other place names suggest some battle that was fought there, such as:- such as An Uaimh
