Turlough (dry lake): Daire Easa (the oak wood of the waterfall) and Lochán an Tinncéir (the lake of the tinker).
Many eminent men such as Dr. Joyce of Limerick and Geoffrey Keating in the fifteenth century devoted their lives to the study of Irish Place Names. They travelled the country and entered in their diary the various explanations concerning a certain place name. Then a book was issued giving the facts in brief. A work like that is invaluable to a country as it brings before the mind scenes from past history and makes us more and more united with a burning love of patriotism
