Potatoes are set in Spring and dug in Autumn. They are secured in pits. There are three kinds of potatoes good potatoes, black potatoes and small potatoes or "poreens". The black potatoes and small potatoes are given to the hens and pigs. Some of the big ones are eaten and some more are kept for seed the following year.
