- I live in the village of Shraugh. The word Shraugh means meadows along rivers. There is a lot of place names in Irish in my land called Curragh which means low ground. Taladh garrudh which means wild land. "Gair na hAmhna" the reason why it is called that name is because it it along the river.There is another field not far away from my house called Culáin Bháineas and the reason why it is called that name is because there was an old man living there and they used to call him Andy Bhaineas, so they called that field after him.There is a field in my land called the Park which means play ground.There is a river flowing through my land called "Aban Bheag" which means the small or narrow river.
